Acts 2:44-45 "And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need."
Acts 4:32,34 "Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common....THERE WAS NOT A NEEDY PERSON AMONG THEM, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need."
Luke 14:33 "So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple."
Mark 10:21 "And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”"
1 John 3:17 "But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?"

"Now as to the love of the brethren, you have no need for {anyone} to write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another; for indeed you do practice it toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia. But we urge you, brethren, to excel still more, and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded you; so that you may behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need." 1 Thes 4:9-12
ReplyDelete... and even if we were to 'have no need for {anyone} to write to' us the call is still to 'excel still more' that ultimately we may 'behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need' ...
"Be hospitable to one another without complaint."
- 1 Peter 4:9
- 5382g - hospitable - loving strangers - philoxenos from
- 5384g - beloved, dear, friendly - philos (and)
- 3581g - foreign, a foreigner, guest - xenos
"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it." - Hebrews 13:2
- 5381g - hospitality - love of strangers - philoxenia from 5382g
... how we are to treat strangers is the bottom line of how we are to show love for the beloved - our 'loved ones' - since we are by the definition of hospitality to show strangers the love of a friend ...
Thanks for the stirring up, Dustin.
